Becoming an MLS player is no easy task, and simply contacting a current MLS player would be the wrong route to go unless you know him personally. At the most, he would probably be able to point you in the direction of the correct people to talk with. A majority of American MLS players played in college first (a vast majority of which played NCAA Division I), the remaining players were identified by MLS as those that should skip college and go straight to the pros. American players were either drafted in the MLS Draft after playing in college, or were brought in for trials on the reccommendations of others. Foreign-born players normally played professionally in other countries before coming to play here. Most MLS teams hold open, public try-outs to any one who thinks they can make the grade. Check MLS team websites for more specific information. The other route to go is to try cracking into the lower-tier leagues in the US. This includes: United Soccer Leagues (USL 1, USL 2), the Premier Development League (PDL), or the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL). The quality of play in these lower leagues is still EXTREMELY high. But best of luck, and hopefully we'll see you out on the pitch some day!
