Even more than I remember Toby Gearhart's performance at Stanford, I remember a draft broadcast one time saying he got straight 4.0's. Stanford is no Ivy League school, but it's still one of the best academic colleges in the country. To be able to keep up in studies and sports like that is amazing.

Unfortunately, there aren't many atheletes like Gearhart anymore. More and more colleges are willing to accept football players regardless of academic performance. More and more activities like Larry Fitzgerald finishing his degree are frowned upon. Why do it now when you can do it later? That has been the common argument, but god knows its a lot of work to go back to college later than it is now.

More and more atheletes are endorsed by companies which I think contributes to the problem. Atheletes get full of themselves, and they think that the sport they participate in is the only thing there going to do in their lives. Then the biting irony strikes and next thing you know, these "superstars" are bankrupt.

My point is, we need more Toby Gearhart's in this world, regardless of performance on the field.

Hope this caused people to think a little more

Most sport are having problems with actually money. Thy cant afford to play the players, and then they don;t play as hard, or dont get paid, until later, since we're in this recession. Yet there are still millionaires.... :)
