In that event there are heats because there are only around 6-8 lanes in a swimming pool. When all the heats are done for that event, results are posted. Many people think that if someone wins their heat, they have won their race. This is a false statement but if the person is in the last heat wins their heat there is a good chance they may have won the race. Finally, a usual indoor pool is 25 yards down. This means that if someone is swimming a 200 breast stroke, it means there are 8 laps to be swam. However, there may be 50 meter pools or 50 yard pools which may change individuals' times because a meter pool would be larger than a yard pool.
