Persons who desire a career in sports management would ideally possess the following qualities:

  • Confident communicators, as they will always be talking to groups, running meetings, speaking with sponsors, doing media interviews, etc.
  • Innovators - they will need to 'think outside the box' to develop new programs, events and services that excite people.
  • Technology literate - because the need to constantly communicate with people over distance
  • Planner - good at developing a plan and organising people to undertake tasks
  • Motivators - they need to inspire people to volunteer their time to help run the sport
  • Cool under pressure - they will often face controversy over the plans and schemes they put into place, not everyone will see eye-to-eye with their plans.
