Plugging a Bowling ball will generally not hurt a bowling ball. There will be some minor variations when comparing the same ball as new drilled the same way as a plugged ball due to the material taken out of the original ball. Even though the plugged ball will be made of urethane, the density of the material was different than the original. Plus many balls have different densities and materials within the cores of the ball and it is impossible to fill that back with the same multiple materials.

It is important to note that while plugged balls are legal for league competition with USBC sanctioned play, it is prohibited at the national Men's and Women's tournaments to protect the integrity of the competition. It may be prohibited at the state level or other tournaments as well, so it is important to verify that plugged balls are acceptable when bowling a tournament.
