Both have perks. Stereotypically players have always favored the Tippmans more then the Spyders. Because of their renowned durability and customization. the MR1 is a decent gun, though not the quality of a Tippman.

ever since 04 however Tippmanns quality has dropped (Ben Tippmann left the company and the board made changes to make more profit) the new markers are just as durable as the rest of the entry level market. In today's market the value has dropped out of tippmann since you can have a entry level spyder with as much if not more performance than a tippmann for less money

Without specific marker models, It is more of a matter of opinion. The Tippmann internal design is much more durable, and simpler, where the Spyder design: (also found in all "spyder clones") the stacked tube is generally able to be faster and lighter.

It depends what kind of paintball you play. If you enjoy speedball, with the inflatable bunkers and close action, go with the smaller and faster electra. If you prefer Woodsball, out in the Forrest or large areas, go with the sturdier and more rifle-like MR1.

Its a good gun not too expensive but has some decent power and accuracy to it. The marker also has many modifications you can add to it if you are buying for looks. The only bad thing about this marker is maintenance. You will have to clean any marker after you use it but the MR1 seems to be a little more difficult to take apart and put back together, overall an excellent gun.

If you are comparing brand's and not certain markers, the only thing you have as evidence of being "better" is fairly impossible to do. However, In general these two companies would be considered "equal" in the fact that they both produce entry- to mid level, poppet valve, mechanical markers, and mid-range electronic's to upgraded their lower end guns. They, however are two entirely different styles of mechanical markers, With "spyder style" having the bolt and striker on top on one another (know as "stacked tube") where "Tippmann Style" has the bolt and striker on opposite sides of the valve. All of the (main) spyder markers resemble "speedball guns" with wide triggers, and shorter receivers. All Tippmann markers are more "military" style with longer receivers. It really depends which you personally like. Tippmann (ant Tippmann clones like BT) are generally more reliable, but heavier and slower (stock), where Spyder (and spyder clones like Azodin) may be more prone to quirks, but are faster shooting and lighter (stock).

So to say that one is definitively "better" than another would only be true for certain types of players (otherwise its just bias fandom), but neither are better in every category.

Its whichever you think would be most comfortable to shoot. They are internally identical, so their performances would be the same. The only difference is the shape of the body, and the MR1 has a buttstock.

Both are starter markers and will perform about the same.

The victor is lighter and is more "speedball" styled.

The 98 is more durable and more "milsim" styled.

The tippmann 98 is more customizable, the spyder is smaller and easier to work on. so it depends on what you consider "better".
