Compression shorts in many cases have taken the place of the jock strap. Male athletes need some type of support for there external reproductive organs. In a sport such as football, cups are not worn and a jock strap or compression shorts are the next best thing.

Try switching to compression shorts - like Under Armor. i still like jocks though. tried compression and didnt like it. Also don't see a need to hide them. I actually wear a black under armour jock so they show up more and no one has ever said a word.

The best part is when you go to bed and take off your pants under the covers...
To play softball you need cleats, pants, socks, and a jersey (or T-shirt if its practice). Also shorts, sliding shorts, and sliding pads may be substituted for pants. You will want the sliding pads to cover your knees so when you slide you wont get hurt as easily.
In any physical activity, having the correct gear can make a difference in your performance. It can also greatly reduce your risk of incurring an injury. One popular type of special athletic wear is compression shorts. Compression shorts are a type of short normally worn by both amateur and professional athletes. The main benefit of compression shorts is that they provide separation between the hamstring and the groin muscles, thereby reducing the strain on both of those large muscle groups. In addition to reducing strain on the muscles, they also help keep your muscles warm, which can help prevent fatigue. Many athletes, especially runners, also believe that compression garments increase athletic performance due to the fact that the shorts keep the pressure on hamstring and thigh muscles uniform on both sides. This prevents fatigue on the side of the body that the athlete uses the most. Generally made out of nylon, Lycra, or spandex, compression shorts are widely available anywhere athletic gear is sold. Some types of compression shorts are specific to certain sports. For example, there are compression shorts specifically for biking, running and tennis. There are also compression shorts that are made for general use and work for any type of physical activity. Compression shorts are frequently recommended for those who suffer from sciatica. Sciatica is a form of back pain caused by irritation of the sciatic nerve, which runs along the outer thigh. Wearing compression shorts while exercising helps support this area and reduces the chance of irritating that nerve. If you are considering trying compression shorts, there are a few things to consider. You want to make sure that you ensure a comfortable fit by trying on different sizes and brands. Because compression shorts fit so closely, it is sometimes hard to guess the size. Lastly, consider choosing ones made specifically for the sport you will be participating in, or ones targeted to the area of your body that you feel needs the most support.
