I'm not sure about Long Beach, but generally for summer intensives you do have to be en pointe or going on pointe.
New Answer
I am currently a year around student at the Long Beach Ballet, and yes for the 6week summer intensive to China you have to be more than an advanced beginner en pointe. For the 3week Long Beach Intensive (I'm doing that one this year) you have to be on pointe or at least start going en pointe in December for your audition. Hoped that helped and please consider the Long Beach Ballet intensive, the teachers are great in every way, the studio is one of the most professional studios I'd say in all of California, and you'd LOVE it, trust me.
i do intensive ballet in the summer
Yes. I received a half tuition scholarship for their 2011 intensive.
They can audition for the summer intensive or you can contact the Joffrey Ballet to see if they have any auditions soon.

Tivoli NY it is a great place and the summer program, Extreme Ballet, is superior.
Many ballet schools start auditioning early in January many end as late as March. You could try auditioning for Boston Ballet School (great five week intensive), ABT, The Joffrey (Great summer intensive), The Rock, SAB, or The Gelsey Kirkland Ballet Academy.
Ask your ballet teacher. If you have injuries tell your doctor and/or go to a physical therapist. Many ballet schools such as the Pacific Northwest Ballet offer inury-prevention seminars as part of thei curriculum in their summer intensive.
a lot of mucscles are used like your tummy, your thighs, your legs, your feet (when you point your toes!) (p.s. I have been dancing since I was 3 and I going to do pointe this summer.)
Your teacher should be able to tell you whether or not you have the skill and strength to start pointe. Pointe-work is very difficult on your ankles, feet and legs, so you must be fully developed (ie. though most of puberty) to begin pointe, or else you may seriously injure yourself. The bottom line is, your teacher, if she has any experience at all, should be able to tell you whether or not you are physically ready to begin pointe
