The Russian revolution came about because the government were really bad at handling revolutions, they just shot them dead and left it at that. But also, Russia was behind industrially and economically than that of other countries, the population was rapidly growing and unemployment was extremely common. The government thought that a small but successful war would make things better, they declared war against Japan and lost tremendously which made the situation worse.
Yes, it did but some historians say that it actually began in 1905 with the massacre known as Bloody Sunday. A peaceful demonstration of over a hundred thousand people turned tragic when Cossack cavalry rode through the crowd and Palace Guard troops shot into it killing and wounding hundred of peaceful demonstrators.
Russian people became enraged at their Tsar who until then was held in high respect as if his power came from God. Democratic reforms, such as the Duma, were instituted. New personal freedoms were initiated. Both reforms were soon ignored by the Tsar causing further discontent among the people. The yoke that the Tsars had had on the populace had been broken setting the stage for the 1917 revolutions.
