In 1956, with the Packers facing the threat of NFL relocation unless city residents approved a new football stadium (now Lambeau Field), Halas spoke forcefully at a rally to encourage local Green Bay voters to approve public funding for reconstruction of their football field. The referendum measure passed, and some give Halas at least some credit for promoting it for the Packers.
