Where is Wayne Gretzky from?

Wayne Gretzky was born in Brantford, Ontario, Canada, about 60 miles southwest of Toronto, on January 26th, 1961. He played his early hockey there, usually against boys several years older. At the age of 10, playing for the Brantford Nadrofsky Steelers, he scored 378 goals in one season. In 1975, at the age of 14, he transferred to Toronto, where he played Junior B hockey -- a level where players usually range between 16 and 20 years old. He did this to escape the criticism and heckling of parents and other players in Brantford. To play in Toronto, he had to battle the Ontario Minor Hockey Association, which argued he was not really a Toronto resident, as his family stayed behind in Brantford. Ultimately, he was allowed to play for the Toronto Nationals, in 1975-76 and 1976-77. The following season, at 16, he moved to Sault Ste. Marie to play his only full season of Major Junior hockey, with the Soo Greyhounds. From there, he turned pro, at just 17 years old, with the Indianapolis Racers of the World Hockey Association.
