In 1949, Boston Red Sox owner Tom Yawkey and Yankees GM Larry MacPhail verbally agreed to trade DiMaggio for Ted Williams, but MacPhail refused to include Yogi Berra. Had the deal gone through, Williams could have benefited from Yankee Stadium's short right-center fence while DiMaggio could have thrived at Fenway Park with its Green Monster. If I'm not mistaken I think the deal was made at a bar and the deal fell through when the two sobered up in the morning.

Ted Williams (1939-1960), played his entire career for the Boston Red Sox and Joe DiMaggio (1936-1951), played his entire career for the New York Yankees. They did play on All-Star teams together, for the American League, during their playing careers.
