No. Collegiate players cannot be traded; no matter what sport the participate in. But, the student can transfer to a different school. The NCAA, governing body of collegiate sports, has many different rules regarding the subject. Although, the biggest rule is let's say that I was playing for Penn State in Basketball with a losing record. But Memphis is on their way to the tournament. I could transfer to Memphis, if they would accept me; but would have to sit out the rest of the season from playing. But if I transferred from Penn State to a lower division; IE 1-AA, div 2, 3 or NAIA, I could play right away. And then I could transfer to Memphis without having to sit out. Hope that makes sense.
