Cheerleading is not a cheap sport. If you cheer for your high school without going to camp is around 70 dollars including camp is around 300 dollars. Rec competition squads are around 1000 dollars a year and all star competition squads are around 5000 dollars a year or even more.
The rules of cheerleading are under the rule of the WIAA, even though cheerleading technically isn't a sport.
No cheerleading is a sport
A very famous cheerleading squad, even though they are more of a dance team, are the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders.

History of CheerleadingPrior to 1898: Setting the stage for CheerleadingThe history of cheerleading is closely tied to the history of sports in the United States (i.e. American Football, Basketball and even Rugby), its sporting venues, as well as the historical development of overall crowd participation at many athletic events. The first American Football university/college game, the initial sporting environment to witness the birth of cheerleading, was held in 1869 between Princeton University and host school Rutgers University located in Piscataway, New Jersey, Northeastern USA; setting the stage for cheerleading to begin.
There's plenty of "points" in cheerleading. In middle school/highschool cheerleading, the cheerleaders pump up the crowd and encourage the sports players. In all-star (competitive) cheerleading, there's competitions to win like in any other sport. Also, regardless of the specific type, cheerleading provides a way to have fun, exercise, and can even lead to college scholarships.
yes, I do. Even though it is a small school and only about 14 girls tryout for it, you still have to. Our Squad is only 8, at least for football cheerleading. Our basket ball is 3 right now and westling is 6 with 2 alternates.
A judge recently ruled that cheerleading was not a sport. As a fellow cheerleader, I beg to differ. Cheerleading combines gymnastics, dancing, and even weight lifting.
