Are there grants for swimming lessons for children with special needs?

The department of water and land conservation provides grant money

in the form of a sharing type grant. 55/45. Go to www.nps.gov (National Park Service). There isn't a lot of money available there but anything will help. I am currently searching as well. Our little town in Missouri needs something for the kids.

The grant would also help pay for things like paving walking trails and an

amphitheater. The grant money available this year is the same amount as last year. There have been a few years that there was no money in the fund but there has been some years that there was much more available than there is right now. Hope this helps.

Depending on disability, your child could learn to swim with non-disabled children and progress using the same ASA Learn to Swim Pathway.

The Pathway is one assurance that your child is receiving quality instruction based on the swimming development expertise of the ASA. Check out our video (left) for the others.

Your child can work through the same ASA Awards, but will be exempt from some skills where he or she is physically unable to achieve them.

However, different pools have different policies. So we recommend you contact your local pool before booking lessons.

Adaptive swimming programs allow people with injuries and disabilities to experience the recreational and healing aspects of spending time in the pool. This may involve special equipment, training and body movements. Grants offered by foundations with these special needs in mind allow organizations to develop adaptive swimming programs and facilities to serve people who otherwise would not get to enjoy swimming.
