Well you can see them as bad killing people for gold food and riches. However if you wanted a good life for yourself and family, would you do what they are doing, you have to be put in their shoes. They either starve or slowly die in the dirt, in the end it would be death or have a good life for their family. Which would you choose? Then we have to see it in the view of the victims, its life or death; Either the Vikings kill you or there are no Vikings. In the end there would be another invader ready to attack, to take the riches of the village, but most people saw the Vikings just burning down these villages for fun or a hobby. They would have taken food and gold, if they saw it mostly as a reward for their days work! Some view the Vikings as vicious, author's see them as people who wanted to survive.

∙ 10y agoThey were neither misunderstood, or lacking in respect. Where they went, they held and claimed for their progeny. They were superior in ability to find raw material and forge superior weapons. They were strong and hard, from living in a harsh environment, from seafaring, and when they were short of space and materials just merely went and conquered.
They were fairly well respected by indians in the americas. FOr weapon making. For being independant, unwastefull, and hearty. Some were even worshiped for color of hair its said, and although there were instances of viking indian wars, they also were known to co-exist with natives without conflits in other locations.
