oxygenated fluorocarbons are indeed real and experiments have shown that you can place a mouse in it and it will stay alive however it is not easy to get the fluid out of the lungs afterwards. As a result it is not used for humans in Scuba diving in the way it has been portrayed in things like the film; the Abyss. For one thing it would be hard to fill all of the gas pockets in the body, such as the sinuses and pressure on the body would also effect how various physical processes take place. These would probably limit the depth a diver could achieve even if oxygenated flurocarbons were used.

I'd have to say Cliff Diving. Every time you cliff dive, you're hoping real hard that the bottom configuration, which you can't see, hasn't changed. No matter what you do, your body receives a fierce impact from sudden deceleration, even if you do it right. Open water SCUBA, on the other hand, should have no ill effects if you do it correctly. And after a year, if you keep diving, the odds of serious injury or fatality drop to a point that's near insignificance. I exclude deep diving, cave penetration and wreck penetration from this assessment.

There are several aspects to scuba diving: you need to be physically able to do it, you need the knowledge and skills to do it, and you need a certificate to do it. Fit as a fiddle and in great shape. It is also good to have a hot girlfriend as well. She will look good in a tight fitting wet suite. Lots of money for your lessons and test and even more money for you own equipment. Very impotant to have your own equipment, as you dont want heavely used stuff from the diving school. Technically not real free-fall, but close enough to put the point across: -- jumping or diving from the high board at the pool -- the first several seconds of sky-diving -- the 'vomit comet' aircraft that flies parabolic arcs and gives its passengers, such as astronauts in training, several seconds of weightlessness.

People die trying this. "Technical" diving, with oxygen/argon/helium mixtures, hundreds of feet. Records are much deeper than people can actually work. Note: messing around diving with home-made compressors or no training can kill you real fast.
