If you are a fan you know lol. It is because they are the best. They have the best defense and a good offense when Bradshaw played (considered the best QB in the NFL) and Swann ( best WR in the NFL) and Harris (best RB in the NFL) they were the best team, so they never let them down you should know that.

As a franchise the Steelers were the only team in NFL history to win 6 world championships in 4 years, never before and never since has any "dynasty" come close to matching that. They also unlike the Cowboys dynasty of the 90s the 49ers dynasty of the 80's etc. did it with one head Coach and one core group of players (49ers won only 3 with Walsh and 2 with Siefert, 4 with Montana, 1 with Young, Rice was only there for 3 of them etc.) as for the Cowboys they had both jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer as coaches etc.

The Steelers also have the most NFL Hall of Famers from there dynasty years with 9 I believe the Packers only have 6 that were on the team for all titles and the 49ers and Cowboys should have about 4-5 each in coming years but many experts can't find much more HOF calibur players beyond half a dozen, so the Steelers of the 70's were not only a great and consistent core group that won the most titles in the least amount of time but did so with some individuals that taken alone were themselves world beaters.

As far as the team today the Steelers are very close to becoming the 2nd most winning franchise in playoff history (2nd only to the Dallas Cowboys) and Bill Cowher though disappointing in January always has the Steelers as very competitive. If you consider that the 49ers, Cowboys, Patriots, Packers et. al. have gone from World Beaters to 1 win seasons but the Steelers-though having some disappointing seasons--have never had a worse season since the 1970 AFL NFL merger then a 5 game win season, and then only twice (one in the mid 80s and one in the late 90s) so by in large if you are a Steelers fan you are rooting for a team that can still beat anybody even in their darkest moments whereas the great 49ers franchise fell on its face with a 1 win season, the Cowboys in 1989 were a disaster at a one win season, the Patriots as late as the early 90s were flirting with no win seasons, those franchises might reach the top of the highest peak but they soon (within 4-5 seasons) go down to the very lowest abyss, the Steelers year in and year out put together a respectable and hard hitting football team that even though one or two seasons might not be in the top 5 teams in the league, still leaves fans with great things to cheer about (much more then the 49ers, Cowboys and Patriots 1 win seasons all in the last 10 years).

If the true test of greatness is not how you are on your best day, but how well you do on your absolute worst then the Steelers are the greatest team ever, they are the only "dynasty" team to never have a horrible season since the modern NFL began with the NFL/AFL merger in 1970, never losing more then 10-11 games a season, and even then never losing like that for 2 consecutive years . . . in fact only once every decade or so being that bad (which is 5 times better then what the Cowboys, Patriots and 49ers lowpoints are in a decade long span).

They're so great because that's who they are, and because I'm a fan of the Steelers and because of what the city of Pittsburgh is. I have been through alot with this team, and I have to say that in opinion, this is the best team that EVER existed.

The Steelers can be considered the best team in that they have most Super Bowl victories. As far as which team is currently the best team in the NFL, that is constantly changing.
